Plastic Industry Solutions
AMIA Laboratories specializes in the investigation and characterization of materials using the latest advances in x-ray diffraction. We can help you determine if or which x-ray analysis will help in your materials characterization. We offer the highest level of XRD Polymer Analysis Services and provide a full range of other related Services.
Plastic Industry Solutions
AMIA Labs uses x-ray analysis to characterize polymers and biological films and fibers. These analyses are used to determine percent crystallinity, crystallite size, orientation, lamella spacings, pore size and lamella spacings. For films, AMIA Labs can perform in-plane scattering data collection in order to probe orientation or structure in the plane of the film or membrane.
Plastic Industry : Solution 1 - Percent crystallinity
Percent crystallinity is the ratio of crystalline material to total material( crystalline + amorphous). Randomly oriented materials can be determined in pellet form can be determined with AMIA Labs unique stage and parallel beam optics that negates the effect of sample curvature. For orientation AMIA Labs has developed a method utilizing a 2D detector and rocking a sample to give repeatable percent crystallinity results.
Plastic Industry : Solution 2 - Small angle scattering (SAXS)
Small angle x-ray scattering is used to probe macro features in polymers. These include lamellar spacing, radius of gyration, particle/pore size and shape. If the polymer is also crystalline, this data can be used in conjunction with the wide angle data, standard diffraction, to give the size of the crystalline and amorphous regions,
Plastic Industry: Solution 3 - Orientation (texture)
Polymer orientation, especially in fibers, can often be described by a simplified orientation distribution function. The quantification of texture through either Hermans Orientation function or a White-Spuielle function
